INTONATION is a small, electronic device that allows the performer to use a spectator’s OWN smartphone to record the ‘apparent’ answers to questions posed to “connected spirits’. Spookily, whilst the answers supposedly ‘spoken’ by the spirits was not inaudible at the time, when the recording is played back, those responses CAN be heard. Indeed, the entire two-way conversation can be listened to. And remember, this is all in the spectator’s, NOT the performer’s, smartphone!
Recently, John Ferrentino recently opened his séance routine at the Daytona Magic Convention with a performance of INTONATION. The audience was so dumbstruck and affected that nobody was prepared to volunteer for a second performance. Indeed, the owner of the smartphone, which was originally used asked John to remove all traces of the ‘conversation’ because it was so unsettling.
The responses were given and when they are recorded they are entirely within the control of the performer at all times AND on a ‘hands-free’ basis. It is anticipated INTONATION is available in both ‘Standard’ and ‘Pro’ versions.
Intonation is a small platform and I mean small about 4*7 it is about the size of a cell phone. Intonation is made to be set on a tabletop, it is black and can barely be seen from a distance. It raises the borrowed phone to about 1/2 inch off the table so that the spectators can see what is going on. The responses from the spirit are in your control at all times!
- You control “hands-free” what and when the responses are recorded.
- The performer asks a question to the spirit and the spirit responds.
- You know at the moment the spirit’s response is finished so you can move on to the next question.
- The recording is very natural and organic in sound.
- The flow from your question and the response of the spirit seems like a real question-and-answer session.
- Intonation runs off of a rechargeable battery that can be recharged in less than 4 hours and will run for days.
- “OLD version” Intonation has a micro USB plug that is used for both the loading of sound files and the charging of the battery.
- “NEW version” Intonation has a micro USB plug that is used for charging the unit. An SD card is for the loading of sound files.
- “OLD version” Intonation’s USB port acts as a hard drive and is seen as such! After you plug it into your computer just drag and drop the sound files to Intonation’s directory.
- “NEW version” Intonation uses multiple SD cards loaded with different responses because of this you can switch between them for different shows.
- Intonation can be controlled from across the room or right in front of the phone with a remote and even hands-free.
- “NEW version Pro” You can purchase up to 10 remotes each with a different spirit conversation all conversations can be performed simultaneously.
- “NEW version” These new remotes have a better range and have AI that takes care of these technologies: Received confirmation, Pairing, multiple frequency hopping technology, and Accidental button press technology! The remote AI knows if you pushed the button accidentally!
- “NEW version” v2 now keeps track of the sound volume even after it is turned off. In V2 of the New Version, we decided to combine both units in one so everyone gets the PRO version at 50.00 less than before how we do this is to only include one remote per conversation when you are ready for a second conversation just order a second remote! you can add up to 10 remotes for 10 conversations with the same Base unit.

Some other presentation ideas other than using a phone:
- A great idea is that every person sitting at a table can all place their ears down on the table “to honor an artifact” then they hear the spirit’s voice at the same time and every person will think that the voice came from just below their ears! Everyone hears the voice.

Another great effect is that everyone places their ears against a wall and they all hear the voice at that spot, just under their ear!
The sound travels through wood and some metals. If Intonation was taped under a table the voice can travel from it to the other side of the table, then up through an object like a wooden cube or box. Let us say that a person is listening through a Tessa Scope on that object, then that person would hear the voice!
Intonation Pro “New Version v2” is a larger version with multiple triggers for each sound. For example, if a person looks over a set of photos and chooses one, that person is who then we contact. With Intonation Pro we have up to 10 sets of conversations that a person can hear at a given time. Intonation Pro is like having 10 regular Intonations in one! With the Pro version, you can have 10 triggers “Remotes” each remote is hands-free. You also have more than 6 times the memory. Although we know most people will never use 10 remotes we do believe you would use two remotes for 2 different conversations like a Male spirit and a Female spirit simultaneously. This remote is so small it fits in your hand and is easy to conceal. The Old version remote was way too big to conceal in your hand and only one button was hands-free. This New Pro-version remote also has a connection to easily add modules like a toe switch, vibration, and a touch module more coming soon.
