The original electronic haunted deck is back and better than ever! Perform the classic haunted deck on command, completely under the performer’s control, with no compromises and no strings attached.
With ease, the deck cuts to the spectator’s chosen card, creating a moment of real magic right at the spectator’s feet, across a room, or on the other side of a window! Vertex will enchant your audience and leave them wanting more.
The base unit comes with the deck plus the hands-free “magnetic” remote.

Vertex Haunted Deck
Arcane Relics and Christopher Taylor. Available from Arcanerelics.com. $200. There is nothing that stuns an audience and leaves a lasting memory like a haunted
deck, especially if the deck moves under impossible test conditions. Now Arcane Relics has the best one on the market with four deck styles to meet any performance need.
As a mystery entertainment performer, I have a dozen or so haunted and rising decks. Some use invisible thread, loops, magnets, grains of salt, microsize plastic pellets, weights, or mechanical components. However, none are as versatile, easy to use, or reliable as Arcane Relics’ Vertex Decks.
Last year, Arcane Relics owner Chris Sipes purchased the rights to Taylor Imagineering’s excellent state-of-the-art Vertex deck. Unlike most other mechanical decks, the Vertex deck does not use a threadbased retraction system. It uses sonic vibration to split the deck. I have one of the original Vertex Decks from Christopher Taylor, and I loved it, although the deck could be a bit noisy and battery life could be an issue.
Sipes spent the last year refining the deck. He used smaller components, which helped eliminate noise. The smaller mechanics also allow for a thinner gimmick, so more regular cards can be added to the deck for the spectator to choose from. To increase the battery life, Sipes also added a sleep switch that puts the gimmick into sleep mode to conserve power when it’s in the card box. He made the gimmick easier to access to replace or repair anything that could go wrong. And finally, he added a multispeed controller that makes the deck amazingly versatile.
I put the deck under a glass dome and on the floor, and watched it slowly split at the point where the selected card was located. It was mind blowing. And even more impressive is watching the deck split at multiple points to reveal more than one card. You can also control how fast the split happens: eerily slow, a little faster, or use the custom speed mode to time your patter to the movement.
The decks are available in red or blue Bicycle backs. There are also vintage, distressed-looking 1900s-style backs and Tarot deck versions.
I understand that two hundred dollars is a lot to pay for a haunted deck, but the Vertex is a reputation maker. It’s a must-have for Mystery Entertainers, séance workers, and haunted dinner party performers. For mainstream magicians, this is a reliable and easy-to-use item you can add to your repertoire and should pay for itself during one Halloween season. If you already own a Vertex, as I do, I’d consider upgrading to this newer version because of the refinements that I noted. Either the vintage 1900s-style deck or the Tarot deck would be my recommendation.
Highly recommended. Rolando Santos
